What about. . .

by derrick ~ January 6th, 2009

After all the interesting news about the TVA Kinston coal fired power plant, I can’t help but wonder if there are any questions we should be asking right here at home?  Tennessee Senator Bob Corker says the Kingston Disaster is a “wake up call” for better regulation and oversight in his home state.  I’d at least suggest that we do a little review right here at home.

Yuk!

Ok, so I get it. You put local businesses on the cover of the phonebook because these are the guys who pay your bills. Understood. It certainly makes sense then, that to get the most businesses on the cover at once you shoot a few images down the streets of Downtown Baraboo. The sure sign winter in rural Sauk County is when you find your mailbox has been knocked over by the snow plow again.  It must REALLY be winter now because this is the second time our mail box has been knocked down this season.  As you can see we’ve learned it’s not worth investing in a new mailbox when it is going to get crushed by a big orange truck on a regular basis. To be fair, you can’t blame the plow drivers. They are lucky to even see the mail box through the heavy snow.  I’m glad they are out there doing their job.  Still to be honest when I look out the window and see the mail box lying in a snowdrift, I do say a few choice words under my breath!

Lear Jets & Mushrooms

by derrick ~ December 18th, 2008

Oh man, when I read that someone had been busted for possessing hallucinogenic mushrooms in our area recently, I was pretty sure that it must have been the guy who thought extending the runway at the Baraboo-Dells Airport to accommodate Lear jets was a great way to spend infrastructure money meant to boost our local economy.
